August:Brandon arrives in Ghana...

So I'm safely in Ghana and working hard to get settled in. Today I registered as a student and got my student ID
I've already met plenty of friends. There are many international students in my hall... Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, and many groups from the States. My dorm room isn't too bad - cold showers and noisy fans will just become a regular part of daily life for me I guess.

I've started working on Twi,(the local language) I should pick it up quickly if I continue to pursue it like I have. I think the Ghanians appreciate that I'm trying.

Today I ventured off on my own and tried some real Ghanian food at a place called the Bush Canteen. I had Fufu with lyle soup (I think thats what its called) with some part of a chicken and dried fish. You eat it with your hand which you wash before hand in a wash basin and (I hope) clean water out of a pitcher. Given the circumstances I'm sure at some point along this trip I will end up pretty sick but I guess it's just part of the experience. I've also sampled the local beer - Star Beer - which is not bad, reminds me of Bud Light.

One other thing, so far the two internet cafes I've been to are EXTREMELY slow and it takes me a long time to get just one message out. I'm going to keep searching for another option
